From Europe to the U.S., Richard Holland is an established and highly respected production designer for film, television 和me park entertainment. With more than 40 years’ experience, spanning productions from Russia to the outer reaches of Antarctica, his credentials show a consistency of unbridled creativity and keen insight into selecting, 管理, and guiding great art departments around the world.
Born and educated in England, Holland’s talent for visualizing fantasy worlds led him to film design with a keen aptitude for live-action animation and concept design. He went on to build an astonishing track record as an art director and production designer. His catalog of films include some of the most iconic and memorable films today including The Princess Bride, The Last of the Mohicans, 蝙蝠侠 & 罗宾, Indiana Jones 和 Temple of Doom, Never Say Never Again, Dark Crystal, 谁陷害了Roger Rabbit?, 迷宫 以及 跳 和 Alvin 和 Chipmunks 特许经营 in live-action animation. He has worked with such industry giants as George Lucas, Stanley Kubrick, Franco Zeffirelli, 罗布雷纳, John Singleton, Michael Bay, Michael Mann, Michael Cimino, Robert Zemeckis, Joel Schumacher, George Harrison and Steven Spielberg along with mega-producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy. He also production-designed the pilot of the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation 特许经营.
Holland is a founding member of BFDG, the British Film Designers Guild; and a highly active member of the Art Directors Guild of America where he has taught incoming and established film and television art directors and designers.
Before he became full-time professor at Chapman University, he was a production design adjunct professor at USC School of Cinematic 艺术 and FIDM.
As he looks to the future, Holland sees vast opportunities for students in virtual production using a combination of real sets, LED technology and Unreal Engine. He was instrumental in creating Dodge’s Virtual Art Department (VAD) class that began in Fall 2023.
